Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave (ATM)
Maya Cave Experience
Better known as ATM Cave and named # 1 Sacred Cave Destination by National Geographic.
Already the journey makes your day adventurous!
On arrival at the beautiful Tapir Mountain Reserve, your morning hike starts with a plunge into the Roaring River as you trek for 45 minutes to the entrance of the Cave.
The hike includes three stream crossings and swimming across a small crystal clear spring-fed pool towards the Cave's portal.
Willingly surrender to the sheer magnitude and drama in front of you as you swim, wade, and climb deeper into the Cave.
The ATM cave system consists of chambers climaxing in a large cathedral, where sacrificial ceremonies have occurred. Here lie those individuals sacrificed to the gods of the underworld gods.
You travel into the past and witness a living museum of skeletal remains and artifacts in their original context. You will also experience the astounding geological beauty of crystalline stalactites and stalagmites inside the Cave.
After approximately 3 - 4 hours inside, you end your adventure with a delicious Belizean lunch within the Tapir Mountain Reserve.
This Adventure is subject to high water levels:
The best time to visit the ATM Cave is most of the year.
It's essential to know that river waters rise throughout Belize with heavy rains due to green season rains that replenish the land. The Cave will be closed to visitors when the river water levels get too high - keep that in mind so you won't be too disappointed.
Choose from 2 different activity levels

The Adventure Tour is a more pampered expedition. It is oriented to suit all-level-cavers, making it a perfect choice for families. In addition, it offers a milder intro to this Cave and its natural wonders.
-
The ATM Explorer is a non-pampered exploration into the underworld of the Maya. Join, partially on your hands and knees deep into this dark window, and explore the dialog, questions, and evidence about the life of the Ancient Maya Culture.
ATM Cave Tour can be for most ages (minimum height: 40 inches). However, this is not a Vanilla Tour! The tour's exercise level is moderate to high as you swim, wade, and climb within the Cave. You are in wet clothes the entire time.
No cameras are allowed inside the cave!
