MOUNTAIN PINE RIDGE
Forest Reserve Experience
Mountain Pine Ridge is a place that will fascinate you – no matter what your interests are!
It's a place where the natural world is on display in all its glory.
Densely packed with Honduras pine trees covering nearly 60 percent of the acreage and with a significant broadleaf forest component.
There are picturesque topographical extremes to see
-
The highest point - Baldy Beacon
-
The one-of-a-kind site - Thousand Foot Falls
-
The gorgeous swimming pools at Rio on Pools
-
The famous Big Rock Waterfalls
-
The sacred landscape of the Rio Frio Cave
The Thousand Foot Falls National Monument is the largest waterfall in Central America.
This majestic two-tiered drop plunges 1600 feet from the Maya Mountain escarpment into the forested river valley of Roaring Creek.
A bonus of visiting the Thousand Foot Falls is the possible sighting of the orange-breasted falcon. They can be seen sweeping out over the vast and verdant valleys as they routinely nest next to the falls.
Rio On Pools is scenic. Its granite rocks and ledges form the most aesthetic waterfalls and fresh-water pools. As the name suggests, numerous small waterfalls cascade into connecting pools that the river has sanded away from granite boulders.
The surrounding evergreens and the sound of murmuring pools will put you in a state of Zen.
Big Rock Falls prompts your jaw to drop - magnificent, monumental, and massive!
After numerous steep wooden stairways plunging into the forest, you will arrive at the bottom of the 150-foot waterfall, an ideal spot for the risk-taker to catapult off a cliff or the relaxation seekers to wade in the shallows of the Privassion Creek.
Lying on your back and staring at the cloudless sky as you float is recommended to experience Big Rock Falls.
Experience the sacred landscape of the Rio Frio Cave. The impressive front entrance measures more than 65 feet high, the most immense cave mouth in the country.
The front cavern is home to enormous colored boulders casually scattered like throw pillows on a seasonal beach.
Wend your way through the stalactites and boulders to the Rio Frio running stream, which flows through the cave, terminating a lovely series of cascading little waterfalls.
During the daytime, sunlight pours into the cave, giving you ample illumination to traverse the quarter-mile diameter from the entrance cavern to the sandy beach on the other end.
There's so much to see and do at Mountain Pine Ridge that you won't be able to put it all down in a single day.
Make your day more enjoyable by letting your guide do all the driving, sit back, relax, and enjoy a selection of the swoon-worthy experiences Mountain Pine Ridge offers.
